sip, el amigo Mosley (presidente de la FIA) ha enviado una carta "sugiriendo" en un futuro, que en el reglamente se obligue a que las motorizaciones sean con motores hibridos......y la tortilla sin huevo

LONDON — A proposal offered last month defining the future generation of Formula One racing cars called for a significant downgrading of technological innovation, but the sport's governing body is turning the other way now with a suggestion that hybrid powertrains be adapted.

Max Mosley, president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), cited results of a massive survey of fans of the sport in recommending hybrids in a letter sent earlier this week to team principals. The survey showed fans want more overtaking among competitors and also favor an F1 that pushes technological development.

Regenerative power systems could be employed to provide a momentary burst of extra power, which a driver could utilize in making an attempt to pass. Innovation by race-team engineers could enhance development of hybrid powertrains used in passenger vehicles.

The U.S.-based Champ Car World Series employs a "power-to-pass" system in which each driver has a limited amount of additional turbocharger boost for discretionary use.

The McLaren team's experiments with a regenerative power system led to a ban of such devices by the FIA in 1998.

Mosley also urges rules changes that limit the effects of aerodynamic downforce and encourage research to minimize drag, which would also have relevance to passenger-car improvement.

What it means to you: In production automobiles, hybrid systems are being developed for environmental reasons, not for overtaking. Still, the potential for transfer of technology from racing to production — and the resulting benefit to the consumer — is clear.

No me parece mal si realmente sirve para que cada coche tenga un número bastante limitado de momentos de potencia extra... daría para unas cuantas escenas emocionantes de intentos de adelantamientos, que ahora mismo escasean.

Poner diesel no hombre! No tendrían que parar ni a repostar :D
